Sara’s Weeknight Meals: Season 15

Episode 1505: Sandwich Culture, Porto and Beyond

A bowl of soup with a piece of food in it

I uncover Porto’s vibrant sandwich culture, sampling the Bifana, the Prego, even a local hot dog before learning to make the granddaddy of them all, the absolutely sinful, sky high Francesinha, packed with meat, covered in cheese and smothered in a boozy secret sauce.  Back home, I make a Moulton family favorite, my grandmother’s Cheese Sandwich Souffle – fast, easy and a weeknight staple with a side of Crispy Tomato Salad topped with Buttermilk Dressing. Finally, my tip on  how to revive stale bread.  Just three ingredients – meat, cheese and bread – will take you to weeknight meal nirvana.
