The matriarch chef of the best fried chicken restaurant on the planet (in my estimation), Martha Lou’s Kitchen in Charleston SC, died on April 1 at the age of 91. 
Back in 2016 I was lucky enough to visit and cook the famous fried chicken with her granddaughter, Melanie Alston (pictured with me here). That episode is up on my “Sara’s Weeknight Meals,” YouTube channel. Here’s the link. Alas, the restaurant closed last fall, what a tragedy.
