Sara’s Weeknight Meals: Season 13

Episode 1309: Down Home Cooking, Southern Style

me and Kirk Satterfield

The Mississippi Delta is our destination today, starting with a trail you can follow straight from Memphis to the place where the Blues was born.   Keep going and you’ll hit some of the richest farmland on earth, where we join the harvest in a space age tractor.   Here they eat what they grow and later I join the farmer’s wife, Bridget Satterfield to make an easy rice casserole from their own crop.   Her husband, Kirk, shows us his take on a Delta favorite – Spicy Catfish.   Then we travel to Charleston, South Carolina to taste some down home recipes from the grandmother of Junior League cookbooks – Charleston Receipts. Finally, I dine with cookbook author, and local culinary celebrity, Natalie Dupree and she educates me about classic Charleston dishes.
