I was there to emcee a food and wine weekend at the Grand Hotel called “Cork and Fork.”
Even though I lived in Michigan for 5 years when I went to U of M, I never made it to Mackinac Island, a very beautiful small island on Lake Huron (no cars allowed). Finally I got to see the place while introducing and hanging out with all these chefs – four with restaurants from around the country and four from the Grand Hotel kitchen. The chefs, all women, originally came from: Iran, Oakland (parents from Hong Kong), Jamaica, El Salvador, Honduras, and Puerto Rico. Wow!! Such tasty food and such great conversations. It will happen again next year around this time. I highly recommend it.
Hello Sara! I met you at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island early Sunday morning! You had a coffee cup in hand and I asked where to get one! And then I recognized you right away! I knew you were Sara Moulton from the Food Network. I’ve followed you everywhere! and love all your shows and videos! I’m just a simple home cook but my father was a well-known Executive Chef from the Sheraton Cadillac Hotel in Detroit during the 1960’s who did the Christmas ice carvings out in front and cooked for many Presidents and dignitaries! He won the Gold Hat Executive Chef of the Year 1962. Sadly he passed in 1982 but he also passed along a lifetime of memories and recipes! It was so nice to meet you. I will always be one of your biggest fans! Love, Karen Nelson
Karen,
Thanks so much for your kind words!
